Our Story

Who We Are:

Co-founded by VFX-Pioneer John Hughes and Shish Aikat in 2014, The John Hughes Institute is an educational entity and the sister company of Tau Films. It is composed of a global community of artists, technologists, and educators, who provide the best practices in the art + science of entertainment.

JHI's Advanced Specialization Programs (ASP)  include: Animation, Character FX, Compositing, FX, Leadership, Lighting, LookDev, Modeling, Narrative, Pipeline, Production Management, VFX Editing, and Virtual Production. We also offer educational consulting/career planning through  JHI Pathways.

What We Do:

We focus primarily on these distinct environments:

  • Colleges and Universities: We create bespoke curricula based on the specific needs of existing programs. Our custom-made courses complement and expand upon existing offerings in animation, visual effects, and the digital arts. We also offer Certificate/Diploma tracks.
  • National and Provincial Governments: We provide master classes and workshops for workforce development and upskilling of industry professionals.
  • Animation and VFX Studios/Onboarding and Production Training Curriculum Development and Deployment: We work with animation and visual effects studios to help design and implement education/training programs (and systems) for on-boarding and cross-training. We also provide L&D training programs for DCC houses.

Why We Do It:

Our courses enhance professional growth and career opportunities for work in games, XR, commercials, film & television, and themed entertainment. They also foster creative innovation, problem solving, and critical thinking.
