About this Course:

This foundational course covers principles of procedural CG and specifically Houdini. The coursework takes the participant from a beginner level to being able to apply procedural modeling, layout, and lighting techniques in Houdini.

  • The Houdini UI
  • Conceptual proceduralism
  • The language of Houdini, objects, points attributes

*Attributes, SOPs in more detail, VOPs, explanation of VEX

*Attribute wrangling in SOPs

*Continuation of Procedural Modeling, and materials

*Layout, scatter, Object Context, Object nets

*Lights and rendering in Mantra

*Intro to USD and Solaris, LOPs

About Our Faculty:

Edward Dawson Taylor is a Senior Technical Artist at Roborace and is also the owner of Edge Visual. He was previously a senior CG supervisor at Pure Imagination and has been a Lead Software Architect for large multinational clients, as well as a Senior CG artist in movies, TV, commercials and live events (having worked for ILM, Disney and

He was previously a senior CG supervisor at Pure Imagination and has been a Lead Software Architect for large multinational clients, as well as a Senior CG artist in movies, TV, commercials and live events (having worked for ILM, Disney and Digital Domain on films such as  Jurassic World, The Lion King and Jungle Book). 


Ed has a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from The University of Bristol.
