As a FastForward Creature FX (CFX) Fellow, you will learn from Tau Films CFX Supervisor Anubhav Pandey, how to create cloth, hair, and fur sims in a production environment. At the conclusion of this free, online, 4-week programme, select Fellows will be offered an opportunity to join the Tau Films crew on current projects. In addition, fellows who complete the minimum programmme requirements will receive a certificate of completion, and will have material for a personal show reel.
The John Hughes Institute (JHI), in collaboration with Tau Films, is accepting applications for the Creature FX (CFX) FastForward Programme. This is a free, online, four-week hands-on programme (in real-time), that covers the workflows for cloth, hair, and fur in a production environment for films, episodic TV, and themed entertainment.
As a Fellow in the Creature FX (CFX) FastForward Programme, you will work with Tau Films CFX Supervisor Anubhav Pandey, in a global production pipeline, and learn industry best practices for photorealistic and physically-based hair, fur, and cloth simulations. Your progress in the Creature FX (CFX) FastForward Programme will be evaluated each week.
At the conclusion of the 4-week programme, select FastForward Fellows will be offered an opportunity to join the Tau Films crew on several exciting film and episodic TV shows. All Fellows who meet the minimum programme assignment milestones will receive a certificate of completion and completed-assignment footage to include in a personal show reel.
The FastForward programme is open to all recent college graduates (2019 or later) who hold a degree or diploma from an accredited institution.
This 4-week online programme is offered free of charge to qualified applicants only.
Yes. This programme is 100% remote/distance learning (in real-time) using a virtual classroom, the JHI Learning Management System (LMS), and cloud tools. You must have a stable internet connection to attend the lecture and review sessions, access course materials, and upload your assignments.
Yes. You will need access to your own computer (PC or Mac with three-button mouse) that is running Maya 2020 and Yeti 4.0 or later. Please note that CFX simulations are CPU/RAM intensive.
This programme is only open to applicants in Malaysia and India. Applicants who have a valid work visa for India and/or Malaysia are encouraged to apply.
You should expect a 40:60 ratio of theory to practice respectively. Lectures will introduce the principles and techniques of cloth, hair, and fur workflows for realistic, physically-based simulation. During the hands-on lab sessions, you will be working on production-quality character rigs and assets. You will thus apply and evaluate the iterative process of simulation in CFX for production.
Yes. All lecture and review sessions will be recorded for you to watch later. However, you will ONLY be allowed to access a recording if: a) you have attended the respective session, or b) have a valid reason for your absence from a lecture or review session.
Throughout the length of the programme, all FastForward Fellows will be evaluated on specific criteria/scales for studio readiness. Select Fellows who meet the required grade in the studio readiness scale will be offered contracts to join the Tau Films crew in Tau Films studios in India and/or Malaysia to work on our upcoming projects for film, themed entertainment, commercials, and episodic TV. Upon completion of the programme, all participants will receive a certificate of completion in CFX as applied to production.
